Moleskine Sketchbook Update 2010-10-18
It's been a while since I updated my sketchbook postings. It's not that I haven't been drawing, so much as I haven't had time to sit down and scan them. Here's a few from my 8.5"x5.5" Moleskine. Enjoy.

I'll Tell You One Thing That I Know
I did this caricature of Joe Strummer for my Illustration Lecture. 8x10" Watercolor and Ink on Illustration Board. I didn't get any feed back in class because no one knew who Joe Strummer was. That just made me feel old and like I'd wasted my time and research. It was my first attempt at caricature, and I thought it was pretty fun.

Recent Work
I'm still a student so I thought it might be a good idea to post some images of work I've done for classes.
This first image is a graphite rendering of a pawn in isometric perspective. It took me about 2 hours to complete.
This is a rough for a perspective project where the objective was to design a city 1000 years into the future. I struggled with the idea of what the future would look like. Would it be apocalyptic? Polished and shiny? I opted to do something that might not be too far off of a city from today, but with cleaner, more interesting shapes than just the boxy sky scraper we're use to.
This is how the final turned out. I may go back into it a little to better define the building on the right a little better, but overall I was very happy with the results. I used a combination of watercolor and gouache on 300lb hot press watercolor paper.
I should have a few more sketches for you soon, I need to scan a few I've been doodling in my sketchbooks.

More Sketches
I usually have a few different sketchbooks of varying sizes going at once. These are from one of my Handbook Sketch Journals. It's roughly 5.5"x5.5", small enough to take anywhere to work out ideas. I find these to accept watercolor better than the regular moleskine sketchbooks.
5.5"x5.5" pen and watercolor on paper.
5.5"x5.5" pen on paper.
5.5"x5.5" sepia pen on paper.
5.5"x5.5" ink on paper.
